Wedding Rings - Q & A

The wedding ring in many eyes is even more precious than the engagement ring, considering the meaning behind it. Tradition suggests you wear your wedding band closest to you, or closest to your heart . Following are answers to a few commonly asked questions regarding wedding bands:

When is the best time to purchase our wedding bands?
A great time to purchase your wedding bands is soon after you are engaged. You obviously want to make sure both of your rings arrive before your big day! Many couples decide to purchase their bands from the same jewelry store your engagement ring was purchased. You'll most likely be able to see the matching band that goes with the engagement ring. Of course you can always opt for a different band all together.

Is there ever a good time to remove my wedding/engagement ring?
Some jewelers will suggest taking your rings off while you sleep to avoid a "ring mark." Not only will your finger change after years of everyday and overnight wear, this change may affect the fit of your ring. Others are adamant the ring never be removed. Our advice is if you remove your rings for any reason, be extremely careful. Things to remember:

Be careful while swimming. Fingers shrink when cold, rings can easily slide off. A great way to put a damper on your honeymoon.

Never leave your rings next to a sink. You may not knock them in, but what about your husband or wife bolting in the bathroom to throw on some deodorant?

Leaving your rings behind in the hotel room can be risky. Hiding places can be found and, although rare, room safes broken into. Remember, the best way to not lose track of them is to leave them on.

Should I wear my engagement ring during the ceremony?
Many women wear their engagement ring on their right fourth finger during the ceremony and switch it over after the ceremony. Other women leave it off entirely, especially if they are wearing tight fitting gloves.

Who is responsible for buying his wedding band?
The bride to be is traditionally responsible for buying his wedding band. Don't worry ladies, his band is a fraction of what yours will cost. If he happens to be a jewelry buff and goes for the extravagant, be honest with him and let him know what you can afford!
